The Flood of ’93

I actually wrote this song in 1998 five years after the events of the spring and summer all along the Mississippi river basin. The flood was amazingly destructive and at it’s peak the Mississippi river was seven miles wide at the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers, very near where I live. My home at the time was about nine miles from the river but looking out my back door I could actually see the flood waters clearly. At it’s height 48% of the county I live in was under water. So many towns were flooded and so much property damage resulted from the flood that I felt I had to document it in this song. The truly strange part in all of this is that there are new developments that have risen out of the flood plain since this happened, almost as though the developers were thumbing their noses at the river. Really not a good idea. The lyrics for this song won an internet lyric contest, although I doubt i could prove that any longer. For your enjoyment.
